2024 Consumer Attorneys PLC Essay Prize Application   

To all rising 2L and 3L J.D. students: Consumer Attorneys, PLC, a nationwide law firm based in
Scottsdale, Arizona, has created a scholarship for you. The firm is looking for an essay-styled
memo addressing a topic related to the Fair Credit Reporting Act ("FCRA"); see details below.


Scholarship Awards:
One $10,000 scholarship will be awarded for the first prize, an additional $5,000 will be awarded
for the second prize, and a third prize of $1,000, as determined by the selection committee.


Rules:
The firm is looking for an essay-styled memo addressing one of the following topics related to the
Fair Credit Reporting Act ("FCRA"):
1. Identity theft and/or account takeovers.
2. Reporting that a consumer is deceased and the impact on the consumer's life and credit.
3. Adverse action in employment due to information on a consumer (background) report.
4. Adverse action in housing due to information on a consumer (background) report.
5. Mixed credit files (somebody else's information appearing on the consumer report of
another person).
The essay shall include some analysis of case law styled in editorial fashion (may include a variety
of thoughts on the law including damages). The winning student will demonstrate an ability to
craft an interesting and informative essay on one of the above topics while demonstrating an ability
to support opinions with case law.
Number of words: min-1,500; max- 2,000
Text uniqueness: minimum 90% (checked on duplichecker.com)

1. Introduction
2. Subject Headings
a. include subtopics if applicable
3. Conclusion
Objective: To educate the reader (lay person) on the law/issue presented
