The Jessup International Law Moot Court team is accepting applicants for the 2024-2025 team!

Jessup is the largest moot court competition in the world with over 700 participating schools from around 100 nations. The competition gives students a chance to network with attorneys from all over the globe while becoming stronger writers, researchers, and appellate advocates. Competitors will travel to a regional tournament in Spring 2025 and then (if we qualify) compete at the world championship rounds in Washington DC next April! ASU is a Jessup powerhouse, regularly qualifying for the international rounds and considered one of the best programs in the country. The team is coached by ASU alumni and local attorneys Rob Gordon (Strategic Litigation Counsel - IRS Office of Chief Counsel) and Amanda Newman (Partner - Dickinson Wright).

Any interested rising 2L or 3L must send their resume, and a brief (one page or less) letter of interest, to coaches Rob Gordon (rob.gordon1@gmail.com) and Amanda Newman (amandanewman@asu.edu) by May 9th. On-campus interviews will be conducted shortly after finals are over (Zoom available if needed). Transcripts are not required. In your letter of interest, please include: (1) your 1L legal writing grade(s); (2) whether you are on, or intend to serve, on a journal; and (3) a highlight of any background in public speaking or public international law.

Every year, Jessup gives us a teaser of the upcoming topic. The 2025 topic will present the following issues: (1) the rights and obligations of other members of the international community when two persons claim to be the legitimate president of a state; (2) invocation of immunity for government officials accused of grave violations of humans rights; (3) the legal consequences of receding coastlines for the maritime zones of coastal states; and (4) the interpretation of the compromissory clause in a treaty creating a regional organization.
