Former NLRB Chairman and Stanford Law Professor Emeritus William B. Gould IV will discuss his memoir,
Those Who Travail and Are Heavy Laden: Memoir of a Labor Lawyer.

In this memoir, Professor Gould ties his lifetime of service to the cause of worker’s rights, civil rights and the equality and advancement of Black Americans to his heritage, his upbringing, and his aspirations.

About the Speaker

William B. Gould IV is the Charles A. Beardsley Professor of Law, Emeritus at Stanford Law School, where he served as a tenured faculty member beginning in 1972. He has received five honorary degrees and is the author of twelve books, including his most recent memoir published in 2025. His writing has appeared in leading publications such as The New York Times, The Economist, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, The New Republic, and Commonweal.

Professor Gould has served in numerous distinguished roles, including:

- Chairman, National Labor Relations Board (1994–1998)

- Chairman, Agricultural Labor Relations Board (2014–2017)

- Consultant, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (1966-1967)

- Independent Monitor and Reviewer for public and private institutions

He has been a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators since 1970.
