Join the Civil Rights, Migration, and Workplace Law Initiative for a conversation with Professor César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández of Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, author of Welcome the Wretched: In Defense of Those Most Despised.

In this compelling book, Professor García Hernández challenges the moral and legal foundations of immigration imprisonment and deportation, arguing for a more humane approach to migration policy in the United States. Drawing on history, law, and personal narrative, he makes the case that welcoming migrants—rather than criminalizing them—strengthens communities and honors constitutional values.

Professor García Hernández is a leading scholar on immigration law and the author of Crimmigration Law and the widely read blog crImmigration. His scholarship examines the intersection of criminal and immigration law, detention policy, and the human consequences of enforcement-first approaches to migration.
