Join the National Lawyers Guild for Abolition 101, an introductory discussion exploring the history, theory, and contemporary practice of abolition.
Dr. Abigail Henson, Associate Professor in ASU’s School of Criminology & Criminal Justice, will lead the first half of the program with a discussion of the historical foundations of abolition, the evolution of abolitionist thought, what abolition looks like today, and insights from her own research.
The second half will feature a moderated Q&A with Dr. Henson and a community attorney engaged in abolitionist legal work. Together, the panel will explore the relationship between abolition, the criminal legal system, and legal practice while providing students an opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with abolitionist theory and practice.
No prior knowledge of abolition is necessary. This program is intended to provide students with an accessible foundation for understanding abolition and its relationship to law, advocacy, and movements for social change.
